-malaysia relations were not near the top of the agenda. one of the more interesting, ironic parts of the visit is it was supposed to be shorter, by six months. president obama put off a visit to malaysia because of the government shutdown. he had to survey home and wrangle with republicans. why is the white house trying to emphasise the relationship. the pivot or rebalance to asia, malaysia, the president pushing the trade pack, the trans-pacific partnership. malaysia is in on those relations. significantly, the rising power and influence in china. economic and militarily. the president insisting that he's not trying to contain china, but maintain and form closer ties with many of the countries in this region. it was interesting. the president comes to malaysia, there's a lot of pomp and ceremony. there's a pal over the country as the airliner is still missing. what was very interesting is president obama took the opportunity to defend prime minister naj eeb. there is criticism that the government was inept and not sharing a lot of informa
